Frank John Loebach, 98, of St. Joseph passed away on Monday, March 08, 2010, at the Caretel Inns of Lakeland.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 11, at the St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes will be in Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Frank was born on August 21, 1911 in La Salle, IL to Michael and Teresa Loebach. He was a veteran of the US Navy during WW II and served in the European Theater. Frank worked in the Assembly and Shipping Dept at Whirlpool for 36 years until he retired in 1976. He is a member of the Whirlpool Old Timers Group and the St. Joseph First United Methodist Church. In his younger years Frank was a boxer and later enjoyed bowling and golfing. His family affectionately called him “Uncle Shorty”. Frank loved dancing at the Dank where he met Mildred. He was a gentlemen’s gentleman.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years the former Mildred Ward; his sister, Grace Scoma of Benton Harbor; his stepchildren, Carol (James) Dean of Benton Harbor, Ronald (Marilyn) Ward of Granger, IN and Shirley (Tom) Holt of St. Joseph and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Zant; his brother, Michael Loebach; his sister, Irene Gualandi; his stepbrothers, Jack, George, Benjamin, William and Thomas Hetherington; his stepsister, Margaret Hetherington; and his brother-in-law, Frank Scoma.
