Lucille was born on July 14, 1924 in Coloma to Joseph and Mary (Kibler) Nigro. She worked on the family farm and at a young age started working at Phil’s Famous Baked Hams. She married Norval LaVanway on September 6, 1947 in Coloma and he preceded her in death on September 4, 1971. She also worked at the Book Bindery, the Derby, Jack’s Restaurant and retired from Ruth’s Laundry all in Coloma. Lucille struggled with diabetes which got the best of her for many years. Until her illness her unselfish heart was reflected in the many family dinners along with her traditional Christmas Eve get together. She always made sure that each child and grandchild got a special gift. There was never a Glad-Peach Fest that she did not welcome everyone with the aroma of food. Recently, Lucille had resided at the Royalton Manor where she leaves behind many friends and her guardian angel Vanessa Nicely. Mom you were the best and your kindness never went unnoticed, we will miss you.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Clara) LaVanway of St. Joseph, Thomas (Laura) LaVanway of Coloma and Pamela (Robert) Adams of Coloma; her sister, Betty Jankowski of Decatur; her brother, Donald (Hilde) Nigro of Benton Harbor; her 12 grandchildren and her15 great grandchildren. She was also preceded by her parents, 3 sisters, Virginia Weber, Eleanor Smith and LaVerne Roberts and 1 baby brother.
