Cleve Lee Smith Sr.

Cleve Lee Smith Sr. was born on July 26, 1949, in Hughes, AR to the Late Charlie and Alice Mae Smith. He departed this life on May 19, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus, OH. The Celebration of Life for Cleve Lee Smith Sr. will be held at 11 AM on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Pilgrim Rest Church, located at 1105 E. Main St. in Benton Harbor, MI. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 10 AM on Friday at the church. Arrangements are by the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. Please leave messages or memories at www.florin.net. Affectionately known as “Danny” from childhood, he moved to Benton Harbor, MI in 1968. Danny worked at Auto Specialist until he became an Assistant Manager at Eagles Super Saver where he became known as “Uncle Danny.” In 1996, he moved his family to Columbus, OH, where he was employed by Kraft and JC Penny Distribution until he retired. Uncle Danny was a happy man who loved to dance and have a good time! He was a compassionate, fun, and loving person to everyone he met. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lee Smith Sr., and Alice Mae Smith, three sisters; Maggie Smith, Bernice Smith, Mary Smith, five brothers; Howard Smith, Melvin Smith, Tommy Smith, Charlie Smith and Leon Smith, and two grandchildren; Christopher Tyree Brown and Tamryn Bady. Those who will embrace his memories are; his loving and devoted wife, Marion Smith, eight children; Demetric Smith, Nika Smith, Cleve Lee (Kim) Smith Jr. (all of Grand Rapids, MI), Tiaisha (Correy) Childs, Tyshawn (Tyana) Bady, Arkeeta Hopson, Shondise (Cortez) Childs, Tyease (Amanda) Smith (all of Columbus, OH), six sisters; Gloria Smith and Linda Clemens (of Benton Harbor, MI), Alma (Doug) Mungo (of Brooklyn, NY), Diane (Stanley) Edwards (of Hinesville, GA), Arnetta (Russell) Thomas and Vivian (Lawrence) Williams (of AR), five brothers; Larry (Andrea) Smith and Richard Smith (of Benton Harbor, MI), Harvey Smith (of Chicago, IL), Herman Smith and Marvin Smith (of AR), fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.
