Mary E. Callahan

Mary “MA” E. Callahan, 78 of Coloma, was welcomed home by her Lord early Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Jordan’s Life Care Center in Bridgman. Also “waiting in the field” to welcome her home were her father, Walter and her brother, Jim. Funeral services celebrating her life will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, April 26, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 249 East Center Street, in Coloma, with Fr. Bill Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the time of service, Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the activities fund at Jordan’s Life Care Center. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.florin.net. Mary was born February 24, 1935, in Chicago. She was one of two children born to Walter and Mae Ford. She married Michael John Callahan, II and together had three children. Mary worked for many years as an Executive Secretary at Kraft Foods in the Chicago area. She was the head of the Kraft Foods Woman’s League for 10 years. In later years, Mary moved to the Coloma area and was the primary care taker for her brother, James. She will be remembered for her contagious sense of humor, her kind heart, and for her late-found-love of professional wrestling. Most of all, the “light of Mary’s life” was her family – particularly her grandchildren. Mary had many friends at Jordan’s, even long before she arrived there, who will fondly recall “MA” stories. Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen Callahan of Coloma, Michael John Callahan, III of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mary (Tom) Darre of Roselle, Illinois; grandchildren, Kelly Cory and Nicole Callahan and Austen and Casey Darre; and daughter-in-law, Diane Callahan. MA will be greatly missed by her special caretakers, Deb Leazenby and Tammy Idzkowski; special friends, Lori (Karl) Myers and Helen Kiel; and by her Jordan’s friends, Holly, Karen, Amanda, Anita, Kayla, Quentin, Sibu, Jen, Linda, Sandy, Nancy, Aisha, Patti, Pam, Mike and John. In addition to her parents, Walter and Mae Ford, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Michael and by her brother, James E. Ford.
