Alonzo Graham, 90, of Benton Township, died on Thursday morning, June 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Services celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Israelite Missionary Baptist Church, 1715 Highland Ave., Benton Harbor. Pastor Joe N. Bruins will be officiating. You are invited to meet with his family and friends starting at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek, Michigan. Military Honors and repast will take place at the church immediately following the service. The family has been served by the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, Benton Township. Please make memorials to the Israelite Missionary Baptist Church. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net. Born in Tuckwailey, Mississippi on Nov. 7, 1927, Alonzo was one of 9 children born to Vandi and Annie (Smith) Graham. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII, most of which was in Japan. Alonzo was a faithful member of the Israelite Missionary Baptist Church in Benton Harbor. Alonzo was an avid fisherman, preferably river fishing, but would not turn down a chance to go into a lake. Additionally, he loved listening to blues and gospel music. Being with his family was his most cherished time spent. Through his several careers he developed stories that were interesting, funny and unusual. Most of his life was spent in Chicago. He moved to Benton Harbor in 2010. His family includes his wife of 50 years+, Fannie Mae Graham; children, Ann Gilbert of Chicago, IL, Maurice (Paulette) Graham of Benton Harbor, MI, Harold Graham and Stanley Graham of Chicago, Jeff (Erna) Brown, Lucinda Brown, Robert Brown, Jr.,; his siblings, Ernestine Hubbard of Grand Rapids, MI, and Minnie Davis of Gary, Indiana; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his sons Melvin Graham and James Brown; and siblings, Rose Curry, Mary Brown, Mary Collins, Emma Green, Kathryn Malone and James Graham.
