Charlene Brooks, 72, of Benton Harbor died Wednesday, Dec 11, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Services celebrating her life will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, Dec 17, at the Fellowship Baptist Mission Church, 171 N. Euclid, Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Monday at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net. Charlene was born on Sept 21, 1941 in Chicago to Charles and Estelle Harrell. She graduated from Chicago State University with a teaching degree. She was a 5th grade teacher in the Benton Harbor School System for 31 years before retiring in 2006. Charlene married her husband, Fred Brooks, and together they have celebrated 50 years of marriage. She was active in the local Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Charlene became a member of the Fellowship Baptist Mission Church in 1985 and was very involved in the church being the President of the adult choir, a member of the Women’s Auxiliary and a teacher in the Vacation Bible School. She was a generous and loving person to everyone and was a class act. She is survived by her husband, Fred; her daughters, Jennifer (Nathaniel) Williams of Lansing, Stephanie (Ante`) Britten of Ruston, LA and Kimberly Brooks of Benton Harbor; her sisters, Jerry Bailey of Calumet City, IL, Elaine King of Calumet City and Marilyn Harrell of Calumet City and her 6 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Alberta Harrell.
