Donald "Don" Lape Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald “Don” Lape, 84, of Benton Harbor passed away at his home on Saturday, November 9, 2013. Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 15 at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Thursday at the Dey-Florin Chapel where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Don will be laid to rest at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net. Don was on born May 7, 1929 in Chicago, IL. to Kenneth and Marion (Bertrand) Lape. He served his country as an Electricians Mate in the US Navy during WWII. Don had a love of history, fishing, and cooking. He was well versed in many subjects as he was an avid reader. He enjoyed a good joke, a lively game of cards with friends and family, as well as traveling domestically and abroad. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and was the great family storyteller. He always kept his word. His word was his bond. Don is survived by his wife, Jennifer, of 42 years; his sons, Don (Annette) Lape, Shawn Lape, Terry Lape, Jon (Pouneh) Lape; his daughter Jen (Mark Readdie) Lape; his 5 grandchildren, Brian (Carla) Lape, Eric (Susan) Lape, Elenor (Patrick) Sullivan, Cora (Victor) Ruz-Gomez, and Michael Lape; his great-grandchildren, Morgan and Ava; his brother Timothy (Joan) Lape; and his extended family including Judith Lape, Geri Wiese, Mia Cockrell, Judy Hilliard, Maude Jones, Maddie Wolf, and all his friends at the Hospice of South Haven. Don is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kenneth, and his first wife of 25 years, Cora (Reese) Lape.
