Donald R. McCartney Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald R. McCartney, 70, of Sodus passed away Monday, January 16, 2012, at his home. Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, January 19, at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus with Rev. Russell Logston officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. Don was born on July 6, 1941 in Oak Grove, LA to Hugh and Ina McCartney. He served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962. On December 15, 1973 he married his wife, Debbie Noble, in Three Oaks. Don was employed for 32 years as a semi-driver for UPS and retired in 2004. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #7 and a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus. Don was the owner and operator of McCartney U-Pick Farms. He was a caring individual who enjoyed working especially on his farm and would help anyone. Don loved his family and was always there for his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his children, Joshua McCartney of Sodus and Michelle (Kevin) McCoy of Coloma; his grandchildren, Taylor, Riley, Nathan, and Dylan; his brother, William (Sharon) McCartney of Atlanta, GA; and his sisters, Sue Klinger of Atlanta, GA and Ann (Gary) Bortz of Little Rock, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents.
