Doris E. Briney Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Doris E. Briney, 94, of Sodus died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph. Services celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM on Friday, April 13, at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph with Rev. Russell Logston officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at Noon on Friday at the Dey-Florin Chapel. Cremation has taken place and burial of the ashes will be at North Shore Memory Gardens. Doris was born May 17, 1917 in Berrien Center to Frank and Nora Becker. She married her husband, Kenneth Briney, on September 5, 1936 and he preceded her in death in January of 1986. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage. She was a medical assistant who was employed at Mercy Hospital and several of the area doctors’ offices. Doris retired in 1993. She was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus and before that the Peace Temple United Methodist Church in Benton Harbor. Doris was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Lakeland Medical Center. She enjoyed needle pointing and playing cards with her friends. Doris was a very independent individual with a sense of humor. She is survived by her children, Jerald (Rita Renee) Briney of Stevensville, and Douglas (Rita) Briney of Canton, MI; her sister, Frances Porter of Berrien Springs; her 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert, in 1950, a granddaughter, Karmen Briney-Montoya in 2004 and a sister, Maxine Goins, in 1999.
