Elmer L. Young Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elmer L. Young, 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday evening, March 5, at Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 9:00 A.M., Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 1053 E. Napier, in Benton Harbor, with Pastor J. Dean Pickett officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hager Shores with Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., this evening, at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to either the First Church of the Nazarene or to Hospice at Home. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.florin.net. Elmer was born on August 29, 1927, in West Plains, Missouri, to Lester and Eva Marie Young. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII. Elmer worked for Coval’s and later at Roosevelt Public School from which he retired. Elmer enjoyed hunting and bowling and will be remembered for his contagious sense of humor. Most of all, Elmer cherished time spent with his family – particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elmer is survived by his wife of 19 years, Carol; daughters, Deanna (Edison) Davidson of Jackson, Michigan, Vanessa Young of St. Joseph and Kara Smith of St. Joseph; step-children, Rhonda Taylor of Berrien Springs, Diane Lee of California, Audrey Smith of Watervliet, and Robin (Bruce) Livesay of Sawyer; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his brothers, Leonard, Harold, and Richard Young; and by two infant siblings.
