Emery Rantz, 92, of Stevensville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Lakeland Medical Center. Services celebrating his life with Military Honors will be held in June at the Coloma Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Emery was born on July 2, 1923 in Sawyer to Fred and Edyth (Tatro) Rantz. He was the 7th of 11 children born to them. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1942 and joined the US Army in Jan of 1943. Emery was proud of his military record having served his country and participated in the European Campaign from 1943 to 1945. He was 1 of 5 brothers that were in WWII at the same time which was a remarkable contribution. His eldest brother, Dale, was killed in the Battle of the Bulge and is buried in Luxembourg. Emery was able to visit the beautiful cemetery. He was a life member of the VFW. He married his wife, Jean Urch, in 1948 and together they have celebrated 67 years of marriage. Both Emery and his wife, Jean, are retired from Whirlpool. After retirement they spent many years wintering in Florida and Mississippi. Emery was an avid golfer and also enjoyed coaching his sons and others for many years in the Lakeshore Youth Baseball Association. A very enjoyable and rewarding time in their lives was being able to work security at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA which they did for 18 years. Emery was a caring and honest individual who made friends with everyone. He leaves behind his wife, Jean; his children, Timothy (Ferny) Rantz of Stevensville and Mark (Susan) Rantz of Lansing; his granddaughters, Whitney Rantz, Kayla (Bradford) Witt, and Rachel Rantz; his great granddaughter Eloise Mae Witt and his sister, Geraldine McLear of St. Joseph.
