Florence P. Youngblood, 87, of St. Joseph, passed away Friday morning, October 12, 2012, at Caretel Inns of Royalton in St. Joseph. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 19, at the Scottdale United Methodist Church, 4271 Scottdale Road, in St. Joseph with Rev. Jane Logston officiating. Burial will be private at Spring Run Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday evening, October 18, from 5:00 to 7:00, at the Dey-Florin Funeral Home, 2506 Niles Ave., in St. Joseph. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Berrien County Cancer Service, Alzheimer’s Research, or to the Scottdale United Methodist Church. Messages of condolence may be made sent to www.florin.net. Florence was born on October 23, 1924, in St. Joseph to Tobias and Lena Plangger. She was a life-long resident of the Scottdale/St. Joseph community. Florence married Jacob Youngblood on August 13, 1945, and together had four children, Joseph, Patricia, Kaye, and John. She loved traveling and going to the beach with her family. “She was always up for an adventure” which was evidenced by her rafting trip down the Colorado River and her trip to London. Florence volunteered for the American Cancer Society. She attended Scottdale United Methodist Church. Florence enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and doing crafts. Additionally she collected hummingbirds, lighthouses, and ‘outhouses.’ Most of all, Florence will be remembered as being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was proud of her family. Florence is survived by her children, Joseph (Bobbi) Youngblood of Eau Claire, Patricia (Gary) Fester of Las Vegas, Kaye (Dennis) Brisson of Flushing, Michigan, and John Youngblood of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Barbra (Jeffery) Dean, Andrew (Kara) Youngblood, Mary Kaye (Len) Amat, Shawn (Christina) Martin, Elizabeth (Kevin) Bowen, and Michael and Katherine Brisson; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Plangger; and by her sister, Erna Sinn of Ludington, Michigan. In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob in 2002; and by her brother, Art Plangger; and sister, Hattie Zebell.
