Harold E. Hafer Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Harold E. Hafer, Sr., of Stevensville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Caretel Inns in Royalton Township. Services celebrating his life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 9, at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph with Rev. Brad Ross officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday at the Dey-Florin Chapel. Cremation will follow the service. Harold was born on April 29, 1931 in Buchanan to Herman and Annette Hafer, Sr. He married his wife, Dolores “Dody” Dziekanowski, in June of 1953 and together they have celebrated 59 ½ years of marriage. Harold was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and a member of the VFW #1137. He worked at Clark Equipment Co for 32 years before retiring in 1982. He enjoyed hunting and watching movies. Harold was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a charter member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Stevensville for over 40 years. He loved his children and they remember his trips with his son to visit his daughter wherever she was living. Harold’s daughter was the luckiest girl in the world to have him as her father. He was a gentle self made man who had a dry sense of humor and never spoke a bad word about anyone. Harold was a good person. He is survived by his wife, Dody; his children, Harold (Tamara) Hafer, Jr. of Buchanan and Julia (Richard) Taylor of Stevensville; his brother, Herman (Lydia) Hafer, Jr.; his sisters, Clara (Herbert) Trapp and Eleanor Schuh. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beatrice Keene and his brothers, Clarence Hafer and Carl Hafer.
