Hattie Mae Henry, 84, departed this life on Thursday June 27, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, July 3, at the Union Memorial AME Church, 911 S. Crystal Ave., in Benton Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Michael Carson officiating. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the time of the service, Wednesday, at the church. Hattie was born June 29, 1928 in Omaha, Georgia to Mary Jo and Racine Davis, Sr. At an early age, Hattie was baptized and gave her life to Christ at St. Paul’s A.M.E. Church in Omaha and remained a steadfast and faithful servant of God. On July 20, 1946 in Phenix City, Alabama she was united in holy matrimony to Johnny Henry and to this union three children were born. In 1953 she moved to Benton Harbor and resided here for sixty years. She was a member of the Union Memorial A.M.E. Church and served faithfully on the Stewardess Board until her recent illness. She loved preparing the church for First Sunday Holy Communion and had a tremendous devotion to God and family. In her younger years, she enjoyed dressing well and adorning her hair with a flower. Hattie was a wonderful and meticulous homemaker and one of the best desserts that she was known for was her Butter-roll. She loved watching TV and a few of her favorites were: Gunsmoke, The Rifleman and The Andy Griffith Show. She had a kind and generous nature and above all else, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and truly enjoyed attending family reunions. She leaves to cherish her memory; three loving children, one son, Conclive (Jean) Henry of Florence, MS; two daughters, Lenore (Vincent) Taylor of Benton Harbor, MI and Sedalia Williams of Grand Rapids, MI; three granddaughters, Avril Henry of Vernon Hills, IL, Pamela Ndossi of Columbus, OH and Whitney (Philander) Martin of Kentwood, MI; three step-granddaughters, Kellee Lockett of Kalamazoo, MI, Kameya Taylor of Lansing, MI and Kamana Taylor of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two brothers, Racine Davis, Jr. of Benton Harbor, MI and Archie Davis of Michigan City, IN; two sisters, Carrie Jenkins of Berrien Center, MI and Julia (Otis) Joseph of Sodus, MI. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by; Johnny Henry, the father of her children; her parents, Mary Jo and Racine Davis, Sr.; one brother, David Davis, Sr.; and four sisters, Doris Davis, Lucille Jackson, Louise Phillips and Jewel Holliday.
