Ida Mae Allen, 90, of Covington, GA and formerly of Benton Harbor transitioned into Heaven on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Newton Medical Center in Covington, GA. Services celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM on Friday, Nov. 21, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. Burial will follow in Crystal Springs Cemetery. Ida Mae Allen, the eighth of nine children, was born on October 3, 1924, to the late Miles and Mary Nelums in Hermandale, Missouri. Ida met and married the late Randolph Currington and to this union two daughters were born, Helen Bainsford and Barbara Lofton. In 1950, Ida married Forest Allen and he preceded her in death in 1993. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage. Ida Mae was an awesome homemaker, great cook, a loyal democrat and a great debater. She loved to talk (a comedian at times) and shop, shop, shop (especially mail order catalogs). Ida Mae was also very crafty and creative. She loved to paint, sew, knit and macramé. Later in life she ventured into doll and jewelry making, which most people have had the pleasure of receiving one of her handmade artistic creations. Ida leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Barbara (James) Lofton of Covington, GA,; son in-law, Buford Jackson of Atlanta, GA.; 7 grandchildren, Rita (Jendayi Talibah) Jackson, Sheryl (Reginald)Tyree, Rodney (Jamie) Jackson, Cynthia Godley, Marlon (Wiladean) Jackson, Jamie Lofton and Staci Lofton; 9 great- grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; 2 great great great-grandchildren; a brother, Elijah Nelums; 2 sisters, Isabelle Sesson and Essie Mae Nelums and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Helen Marie Bainsford in 2013; 4 brothers (Sam, Taylor, Roosevelt and Ben), and 2 sisters (Phyllis and Goldleaner).
