Irene Masters- Wonson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Irene Masters-Wonson, 90, of St. Joseph, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 surrounded by her family at West Woods of Bridgman. A celebration of her life gathering will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, July 25, at the Woodbine Lodge at Riverview Park in St. Joseph. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Crystal Springs Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Irene had a long and fulfilled life and was born on Oct 1, 1925 in Sodus to John and Agnes Howard. She married her first husband, Charles Masters, in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1985. She married her second husband, Lester Wonson, and he survives her. She was the bookkeeper and office manager for Masters Construction, her first husband’s business, and she also had worked at Brammall Supply. Irene was a long time member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Sodus where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed wintering in Bradenton, FL where she played shuffleboard and cards with friends. Irene loved having dinner parties with her friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff at West Woods Nursing Home for their kindness to Irene. She leaves behind her husband, Lester; her daughters, Linda (Roger) Anderson and Susie (Bruce) Leavitt, both of Benton Harbor, Kelly (Scot) Libants of Lansing and Charlene (Jim) Gunn of St. Joseph; her son, Charles (Stacy) Masters of St. Joseph; her stepsons, Steve Wonson, of St. Joseph and Doug (Marybeth) Wonson of Southlake, TX; her grandchildren, Jeff Wicks of Bradenton, FL, Kim (Jim) Billings of St. Augustine, FL and several step grandchildren; and her great-grandson, Devon Billings and several step great grandchildren .
