Jack A. Vance, 91, of Benton Harbor, passed away Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 at the Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Services celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, November 2, at Riverview Cemetery in St Joseph. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 1st at the Dey-Florin Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in St. Joseph. Please share memories, messages and photos at www.florin.net Jack was born on January 17, 1921 in Benton Harbor to Catherine and Carl Prillwitz. He achieved Staff Sergeant status in the U.S. Army Air Corp while serving his country during World War II. Jack met and married his wife, Vira May while they both served together. Vira May preceded Jack in death in 2000. Jack and Vira May celebrated 53 years of marriage together. Jack retired in 1976 from the Farmers and Merchants National Bank as the Executive Vice President after 37 years of service. After retiring, Jack raised and rode horses at his sister Sandie's farm, where his love of animals was evident. He was never without a dog by his side and he was known to accept any stray dogs or cats that came into his life. Jack also took wood carving classes at the Sarret Nature Center and became very good at carving waterfowl. As an avid outdoorsman, Jack was a member of the Sportsman’s Club and Berrien Hills Country Club. He was very generous to all who came in contact with him and enjoyed meeting with his friends for coffee at Van's Pharmacy. Jack loved life and his family. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Carol Morga, of Benton Harbor, Kathleen (Jon) Shreve of Howell and his sister, Sandra and nephew Scott Beavers of Benton Harbor. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald in 1989. Jack was a loving grandparent to his 4 grandchildren, Matthew Morga, Michael Morga, Jacob Shreve and Emma Shreve.
