John G. Hicks, 83, of Sodus Township died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at his second home on Scott Lake in Bloomingdale where he loved to go on weekends. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, June 5, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township. Cremation has taken place. Please share messages or memories at www.florin.net. John was born on January 20, 1939 in Benton Harbor to Edward and Marie Hicks. He graduated from St. John’s High School in 1958. He married his wife, Karen, and they had close to 50 years of marriage before her death in 2009. John was a master craftsman who could do about anything. He was employed at Kaywood for 30 years and then at South Haven Packing Co for 10 years before his retirement in 2009. John loved to go to Scott Lake whenever he could. He enjoyed fishing on the lake, making wine, and hosting a karaoke party every Saturday night at the lake. John was an independent caring individual who loved his family and going to the lake. His family includes his children, Beth (James) Leitz of Sodus, Debbie (Brian) Eubanks of Benton Harbor and Gary Hicks of Eau Claire; his brothers, Edward Hicks, Jr, of Sodus, and Joseph Hicks of Sodus; his sisters, Anita Hicks of Sodus, Donna Donnellan of Benton Harbor, Nancy Lambrecht of Watervliet, Mary Anderson of Coloma, and Kathy Rozema of Walker; his grandchildren, Lauren, Jennifer, Jameson, Corey, Dylan, and Cassidy; and his great grandchildren, Henry and Amelia. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother, James Hicks and a grandchild, Elias Wendzel.
