Kyle F. Schick of Benton Harbor passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, following a short illness at home. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Service, 1053 Napier Avenue, in Benton Harbor. A Celebration of Life Service will be held will be held at 11:00, Wednesday morning, May 30, at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 East Glenlord Road, St. Joseph, Michigan, 49085 with Pastors Rosenbaum and Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow at Crystal Springs Cemetery with Military Rites. Kyle was born on November 18, 1921, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Kyle F. Schick, Sr. and Vera Williamson Schick. He is survived by his wife, June “Kent” Schick, and sons Douglas K. (Sandra “Mallory”) Schick, New Carlisle, IN and Donald L. (Rosalba “Leal”) Schick, Edmond, OK and by three grandchildren, Christa “Schick” Eaglebarger, LaPorte, IN; Kaci Schick, Tulsa, OK and Ryan Schick, Edmond, OK, and three great grand children. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy “Schick” Toland of Benton Harbor, MI and 7 nieces and nephews Gary (Lee) Toland, Dennis (Sue) Toland, Diane “Toland” (Mike) Phelan, Alan (Nancy) Kent, Barbra Kent, David (Lisa) Kent, and Cheryl “Kent” (Jim) Collins. He served in the United States Marines during WW II as an airfield mechanic in the Asiatic-Pacific area from 1942 to 1945. Kyle married June, the love of his life on April 3, 1948. They had 64 wonderful years together. Kyle was a 1940 graduate of the Benton Harbor High School. He worked at Ross Carrier and OK Electric of Benton Harbor and preceded to work and then retired from the Benton Harbor Post Office after 27 years of service. Kyle then worked at the Florin Funeral Home for 10 years. He is a member of the VFW 1137 Benton Harbor, MI and the American Legion 568 of Stevensville. June and Kyle were the proud participants of the Michigan “Snowbirds,” spending winters in Leesburg, FL for over 14 years. They also loved to spend their retired years traveling the world, including Switzerland, Germany, Aruba, Alaska, Hawaii, and several cruises. Kyle was a loving, dedicated husband, father, and friend, who will certainly be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Michigan Lutheran High School, Hospice at Home, and the Senior Center of St. Joseph or the donor’s choice.
