Benton Harbor – Mildred Irene Brown, 85, of Benton Harbor, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Lakeland Continuing Care in Benton Harbor. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the Riverside United Methodist Church 4401 Fikes Road, in Riverside, with Pastor Steven Small officiating. Visitation will be held Cremation will follow and burial will take place at a later date held at the Coloma Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church. Mildred was born October 12, 1927, in Benton Harbor to DeForest Robert and Sarah Arent. She attended Nurse Cadet Training School prior to WWII. Mildred worked as a registered nurse in various capacities for 41 years at several hospitals including Memorial, Mercy, and Paw Paw. She was a long-time member of Riverside United Methodist Church and served in the coral group in the church choir and on the Ladies Missionary Society. Mildred also enjoyed ‘sing-a’lings” and sang in the TOPS and ROPS choral groups. Most of all, Mildred cherished time spent with her family – particularly her grandchildren. Mildred is survived by her children, Vicki (Brian) Baker of Benton Harbor, Robin (Michael, Sr.) Wojciechowski of Benton Harbor, and Rodney (Linda) Brown of Rapid City, SD); 5 grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Paul, Nathaniel, and Jonathan; 3 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Cayla, and Caidence; by her sister, Louis Ardith (Frank) Johnson of Lawrence; cousin, Marilyn Dumke; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her siblings, Vera Teall, Paul Arent, and Louis Arent.
