Long-time St. Joseph resident Nina Ruth (Scott) Dominy who celebrated her 98th birthday on Feb. 11, died on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Woodland Terrace in Bridgman. Family services were held and burial was at Riverview Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph First Congregational Church in St. Joseph. She was born Feb. 11, 1917 to Lulu (Chauncey) and Judson Scott, fruit farmers west of Coloma. She graduated from Bridgman High School in 1935 and attended County Normal, taught school, and then graduated with a B.A. in education from Western Michigan University in August, 1965. Nina was teacher at Sorter School in 1938, when she met and married her husband, Gareth Dominy, of Benton Harbor on Nov. 20, 1940. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary before he died in 2012. He was superintendent in Homer, Cassopolis, Constantine and Camden-Frontier near Hillsdale, and she taught elementary school in Constantine, Camden-Frontier and Reading, MI. Nina was a member of the St. Joseph First Congregational Church and the DAR. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Chapman of Twin Lake, MI; grandchildren Christine Johnson of Twin Lake and Jon Johnson of Portage;great-grandson, Tyler Johnson and his mother Dannielle Docekal of Decatur. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews which include Charles Chauncey (Sue) Wells of Oak Park, IL; Andrea Oates of Kansas City; John Scott Oats of Winter Springs, FL, William (Cheryl) Dominy of Canaan, Ct; Ruth Ann Wilkerson and Barbara House of Huntley, IL; Cheryl (Ray) Licata of Sun City, FL; and her special great niece Laura Wells (Joe) Tito of Coloma.
