Coloma – Russell R. Richter, 93, of Coloma, passed away early on February 11, at the Watervliet Community Hospital in Watervliet. A committal service will be held at Coloma Cemetery with Military Rites at a later date to be announced. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.florin.net. Russell was born August 20, 1920, in Chicago to Martin and Sarafee Anderson. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. Russell served in Okinawa, Japan, receiving the Purple Heart in combat. Russell married Ida Merie Gilson and together celebrated 64 years of a happy marriage. Russell worked as foreman at Dwan’s Canning, worked as a subcontractor for many years and was owner of Richter’s Nursery. He enjoyed hobbies including painting, crafts, gardening, and researching genealogy. Most of all, Russell cherished time spent with his family. Russell is survived by his wife, Ida; children, Steve Richter of Stevensville, Robert (Betty) Dunning of Baroda, James (Carol Sue) Dunning of Sodus, and Lori (Craig) Mandenberg of Orland Park, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; and by 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded by several siblings.
