Bedford, Texas – Shirley Hosner, 85, formerly of Benton Harbor, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2011, in Texas. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 15, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, 1153 E. Napier Ave., in Benton Harbor, with Pastor Tony Dirr officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.florin.net. Shirley was born on July 17, 1926 in Bainbridge, Michigan to Charles and Bernice Nower. She attended and graduated from Benton Harbor High School Class of 1944. Shirley was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Cooties for over 60 years as well as member of Eastern Star. She held many offices within the Ladies Auxiliary including District President. Shirley worked with Joe and Lila Blake for many years as well, owning the Melody Grill. After retirement, she volunteered at the VFW and anywhere else she could to lend a hand. Shirley would want to be remembered with the saying, "Bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, miss me - but let me go." Shirley passed in Bedford, Texas where she had resided since 2005 to be near her family. Shirley is survived by sons, Ron (Debbie) of British Columbia, Canada, Bob (Debbie) and Rick (Wendy) of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren Kimberly Dirr (Tony) Wapakoneta, of Ohio, Robert Hosner, Jr. (Natalie), of Fort Worth, Texas, Randy, Alexander and Sabrina Hosner of British Columbia, Canada; great-grandchildren Caleb and Hayden Hosner, Alisha and Morgan Dirr; stepson, Milo Mckie, of Hickory Corners, MI; sister-in-law, Georgia Nower; and by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
