Vera Louise Aspengren Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Vera Louise Aspengren, 103, of St. Joseph, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 19, 2012, at Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph. Vera was born on September 21, 1909 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Her deceased parents were Benjamin and Pearl Kniebes. Her husband, Chester, of 57 years, predeceased her in 1988, and her son Arthur in 2007. Vera had one brother, Ronald, and one sister, Evelyn, both of whom predeceased her. Vera will be remembered as being a wonderful mother to her son Arthur and his wife Donna of Ft. Myers, Florida and her daughter Adrienne and her husband Ed Bagatini of St. Joseph. Vera is also survived by seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great-granddaughter. Vera was a graduate of Watervliet High School and Western Michigan College Normal. She taught school for two years before raising her family and working with her husband on their farm in Watervliet. Both she and her husband were very active in the Watervliet United Methodist Church where Vera played piano in the Sunday School for sixty years. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 23, at the St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 2950 Lakeview Ave, in St. Joseph with Pastor Harris Hoekwater officiating. Burial will follow at the Watervliet City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until the time of the service, Tuesday, at the church. Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of St. Joseph. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dey-Florin Funeral Home in St. Joseph.
