Vivian Carolyn Turner Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Benton Harbor - Vivian Carolyn Turner, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Lakeland Continuing Care in St. Joseph. Vivian was born on April 27, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia. Vivian married Hosea Turner on March 12, 1943. She committed her life to the Lord and demonstrated her love in many ways. Shortly after arriving in Benton Harbor, Vivian joined the Second Baptist Church under the Rev. W.G. Wilson, Pastor. Vivian served in many capacities. She worked as a substitute teacher’s assistant and teacher for many years in the Benton Harbor Area Schools until 1983 before retiring. Vivian leaves a loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Hosea Senior; two sons, Bertram (Deborah), from Palatine, IL and Hosea Jr. (Anita) of Benton Harbor; three grandchildren, Denise, Nathanael & Joshua; an adopted sister, Alice Shephard (LaWanna and Lisa) of Atlanta, Georgia; and one cousin, Paul Thornton (Sheri & Paula) in Hazel Crest, Illinois. Many other family members include the whole extended Turner family, many church members and additional friends. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at the 2nd Baptist Church, 600 Donald Atkins Drive, in Benton Harbor, with the Rev. Kenneth Gavin officiating. Burial will be private at Crystal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until the time of the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the 2nd Baptist Church Elevator Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service.
