Katherine H. Buchan

Katherine H. Buchan, 72, of Lincoln Township died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Benton Township. The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to Lakeland Hospice or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Township is in charge of the arrangements. Kathy was born June 19, 1937 in Big Rapids, MI to Ervin and Katherine LaGrow. Her husband, Dennis Buchan preceded her in death in 2002 after 49 years of marriage. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for many years. Kathy was a paraprofessional in reading for the Benton Harbor Schools for many years. After this she had a day care in her home for a while and then was in charge of the day care at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for 5 years where she retired in 2004. She was also a volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center and the Lighthouse Attic. She enjoyed traveling and camping. Kathy was a giving people person who always wanted to be with her friends. She also loved kids and playing with them. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Diane) Buchan of Stevensville, Denise (Gene) Ginani of Coloma and David Buchan of Chesterton, IN; her daughter-in-law, Tammy Buchan of Chesterton, IN; her brothers, Ervin (Bonnie) LaGrow of Coloma, Dick (Jane) LaGrow of Orion, MI, Robert (Debbie) LaGrow of Kalamazoo, David (Linda) LaGrow of Coloma, Mike (Sally) LaGrow of Plainwell, MI, Larry (Linda) LaGrow of Sodus, Daniel (Renee) LaGrow of Beaverton, OR; her sisters, Bertha Briney of Benton Harbor, Donna (Jim) Hyepock of Niles, Tina (Jim) Campbell of Whitehall, MI, and Anne (Tom) Thorson of Benton Harbor; her sisters-in-laws, Judy LaGrow of WI and Debbie LaGrow of Bridgman; her six grandchildren, Ryan Buchan, Jessica Buchan, Lauren Ginani, Ronald Ginani, Jeremy Prigee, and Colin Buchan, and her pet dog, Fritz. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ted LaGrow, George LaGrow; her sister, Patricia LaGrow and brother-in-law, Ronald Briney, Sr.
