Lula Mae Kovach

Lula Kovach,81, of Stevensville, died Friday, December 16, 2022 at the Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. Lula was born on August 5, 1941 in Jonesboro, AR, to Jimmie and Ethel Floyd. She married her husband, James Kovach, in 1968 and together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. Lula, along with her husband owned and operated the Country Gal Bar Saloon in Stevensville for about 17 years. This was where she earned her nickname “Momma Lu”. She was a very fun loving and giving person. She was also involved with the Kovach Real Estate Agency and held a Real Estate license. She then worked several years at Jordans Nursing Home in Bridgman. Her loving and patient nature was a perfect fit for the families and residents she cared for. Momma Lu was a wonderful and amazing person inside and out. She was strong, protective and supportive. She has helped impact and mold not only her own family but many others throughout the community. Momma Lu was a loving, caring, generous, encouraging, and faithful person. Her wise and sometimes furious wisdom helped many. She enjoyed and loved all her family whole heartedly. She will be missed tremendously by her family and by many who have come into contact with her. Surviving family includes her husband, James; her 4 children, Cynthia (Steve) Poor of Coloma, Jamie Kovach of Benton Harbor, Jennifer (James Clarke) Kovach of Stevensville, and Joseph (Amanda Gruenberg) Kovach of Stevensville, 8 grandchildren; Angel White (Byers), Chloe Kovach, Violet Kovach, Steve (Cindy) Poor, Jr., Stacy Poor, Emmie (David) Mangold Zakia, and Gregory Martin, her 8 great grandchildren; Katelyn and Justin White, Stella Kovach, Tyler Poor, Sydney and Logan Loofboro, Lucy and Avery Mangold, and two great great grandchildren; Edwin and Annabelle Poor. Services celebrating her life will be held later this Spring. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or any organization that helps kids or animals.
