Peggy Ann Davis

Peggy Davis, age 77, of Benton Harbor, passed away at home on Saturday, April 5th, 2025. While we mourn the loss, we can take comfort and joy knowing that she is with her Savior, Jesus Crist. Peggy was one of fifteen children born to Pauline and James Newton. Peggy was born at home in Manila, Arkansas. At a young age, she started picking cotton to help the large family. When the family moved to Michigan, she met her future husband, Barney Davis, who was also from Manila, Arkansas. How ironic that they never met until the families settled in Michigan Her first job in Michigan was for Voice of Music (VM) and from there, Heath Company, Zenith until the plant closed and then Printek until retirement. Mere words cannot adequately describe who she was. She loved her family and would do anything for them. She was known for her quick wit and stinging sense of humor. She took joy in listening to music with her favorite being Country and her favorite performer Alan Jackson. She also loved southern style-Gospel Music and watching Gospel Hour every week. She shared this love with her younger sister, Brenda. She was fan of University of Michigan Football and Men’s Basketball. She also enjoyed jig saw puzzles, watching murder mysteries on television, Agatha Christie books, and her occasional trips to the casino. Survivors include her daughter Patricia, son-in-law Dan Gross, her granddaughter Victoria Lindenfeld, her step-grandchildren Maggie and Charlie Gross, her step-daughter Cheryl (Jimmy) Thompson, sisters Brenda (Bob) Booker, Linda Ward, Charlene Matrau, brothers Lon Newton, John (Patricia) Newton, Don (Jackie) Newton, and Tim Newton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and best friends Margie, Mellie, and Dorothy. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Katherine, Beverly (Gary) French, Paulette (Jerry) Neville, and Janet (Wendell) Hurley, brothers Jimmy, Larry, and Ken (Susan) Newton. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Service information is as follows with arrangements entrusted to Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service and Cremation: Visitation will be Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 5-7 pm at the Florin Chapel located at 1053 E. Napier Avenue in Benton Harbor. Funeral: Graveside service, officiated by Reverend Marc Danapilis, and Peggy’s daughter-Minister Patricia Norvell-Gross, on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Fairview Memorial Cemetery, Red Arrow Highway in Watervliet. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at Apostolic Tabernacle Family Center at 1881 Greenly Avenue in Benton Harbor. Memorial donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or to The Anchor Church of God in Stevensville, of which she was a member.
